Art conservators repair damaged work, inspect and study work to see how damages happen and change over time, clean work and generally care for the works of art. Education for this field is very specific, people interested would need an art history degree and then possible a minor or dual major in chemistry. For graduate school one would need to go to a specialized conservatory program. Not many schools in the US offer such programs, with NYU and the University of Delaware being two of the most prominent programs. After completing undergrad and grad school people interested in the career need lots of internship experience. Art conservation is a very important career for understanding and preserving art history. Art conservationists have already restored various pieces that have expanded our understanding of art.
